From 3rd-4th April the EPRISE held a European Photonics Roadshow in Gateshead and Newcastle, in the North East of England.

The successful event was hosted by CPI and focussed on providing support to SMEs operating in the medtech and pharma markets with photonics-enabled products. Day one was held in the Baltic in Gateshead while day two was in the Core, part of Newcastle University. The two-day event heard from a panel of international experts, who covered a range of healthcare market, innovation, investment and photonics topics.

The roadshow was the penultimate event in a series of seven roadshows over the last twelve months, hosted in different cities across Europe. They have all focused on at least one of the four key target markets of the EPRISE project: medtech, pharmaceuticals, food and agriculture.

The event went well and feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Each of the speakers showcased their expertise and networking during the breaks and over the social dinner on day one allowed for further questions and relationships to be developed. The variation of each area of expertise provided a packed agenda designed to appeal to companies at all stages of development. Participants heard from a range of speakers including experts in medtech regulation, clinical trials, finance & venture capital, photonics technology development and scale up and the markets for pharmaceutical devices.

The photonics industry benefitted from this dedicated event as it allowed for knowledge to be shared. Pitching sessions gave SMEs a platform to showcase their offering and a way of communicating potential types of collaboration. Pre-arranged B2B meetings also took place at the end of day one to stimulate collaboration and to enable networking with a European-wide audience.
